Share the Stoke!

World changing mountain bike
Instructor Training

This 2-3 day course is what you've been waiting for! Practical, fun, and specific… training designed to help you and your team be the best MTB instructors in all the land.

Share the Stoke

Over the years, we've chatted to people around the country keen to set up their own youth MTB organisation. This is so rad right?! More good humans wanting to pass on their passion to young people:

  • Teachers starting a MTB club at school

  • Running mountain biking for outdoor education or school camps

  • Parents starting a group in their neighbourhood

  • Principals wanting to upskill existing MTB instructors/coaches

While we know we can’t have WORD in every location (yet, ha!), we do think we can help make a real difference for communities around Aotearoa. We’re super stoked to finally have the stars align to bring to you ‘Share the Stoke’ starting summer 2024/2025! This 2-3 day workshop is designed to help you and your team deliver amazing MTB sessions for young people.

What we’ll cover

  • How to run a series of safe, fun, and progressive MTB skills sessions for young people!

  • Guiding a group on Grade 3 and 4 trails.

  • Risk Management on mountain bike trails.

  • How to teach specific MTB Skills (body position, cornering, braking, intro to drops and jumps).

  • Pro tips and common issues around MTB Skills

  • Improving your personal riding, yeeeooowww!

  • How to operate as a MTB Instructor under NZ health and safety legislation

Its excitingly exhausting! Haha! I had so much whizzing through my brain I was knackered by the end - but in a good way! You need to go into it open minded and welcoming to change of your own riding and you can get so much learning from the other participants, not just the instructors.
— Laura, North Island outdoor education teacher

The Costs

As a charity, we know what it’s like to not have a lot of dosh, so we’re keeping this training (and all the other WORD programmes) as low as possible.

$695 plus GST per person- minimum 3 people, max 8 people

Plus travel expenses for 2 x WORD Instructors

Russ and Ash somehow delivered the prefect package that made me feel like I’d just gone for a rad riding weekend with my mates, but also somehow walked away with so much learning and new skills!
