What’s the job like?

The WORD Instructors are the best! These are the folks that instruct our after school programmes and camps. As an instructor, you will be paid for teaching kids how to be good riders and good people. MTB skills, trail building, bike maintenance, teamwork, and the occasional face painting are all part of the job.

Dates of work:

After School: February- April and October-December
(1-2 days/week, 4.15-6.45pm).

School holidays: January, April, October
(8.30-3pm and overnighters)

Locations:

Wānaka (various locations)

What does it take?

To be a WORD MTB Instructor, you don’t need to be an amazing rider, but you do need to be stoked about helping kids enjoy riding just as much as you do.

Prerequisites:

-Experience working with kids (coaching/teaching)
-MTB Coaching/Instructing certification (a bonus!)
-Current outdoor first aid certification*
-At least 2 years MTB experience (Intermediate/Adv. MTB skills)
-Passion for riding and instructing
-17 years and older
-Attend the two day WORD Instructor Training Camp 7-9 January 2021

Instructor Training

We’ll teach you what and how to be the best MTB Instructor in the land! Accepted applicants will be required (really it’s an honour) to join the WORD Instructor Training Weekend based in Wānaka in January 2021.

The WORD Instructor Pathway:

  1. Recruitment- application, interview, referees check, police check, first aid certificate

  2. Attend Training Camp (7-9 January). Unpaid

  3. Buddy Teach- Join an experienced Instructor with a group of kiddos for one term (February-April). PAID

  4. Instruct own small group in Term 1 (October-December) PAID
